Knowledge Retention

At Roecroft, we know that successful learning happens when children transfer new information from their working memory into their long-term memory. We ensure we embed key knowledge through purposeful planned retrieval practice across the curriculum.

Regular retrieval practice strengthens long-term memory and makes it easier for pupils to retrieve, manipulate and use the information later. Our aim in providing opportunities for retrieval is for our children to be able to recall key curriculum knowledge easily and automatically.

At the end of each curriculum unit, we encourage pupils to share their new learnt knowledge by writing golden sentences which link to the three key questions on their knowledge organiser that they have been exploring.
